Under MNRE's revised instructions, a PM Surya Ghar vendor has 15 days to close every defect flagged in a third-party field quality inspection (FQI), and the proof has to be uploaded from the main vendor login. The portal expects a geo-tagged, time-stamped photo of the fix, a portal undertaking signed by you and the consumer, OEM warranty papers that carry the module and inverter serial numbers, and clean PDF files. If your site team cannot assemble that pack inside a week, the deadline will catch you.

What changed in the FQI defect process?

Defects found during third-party inspections are now assigned to vendors in the FQI Defect section of the vendor portal. After fixing each one, you update its status, add remarks and upload evidence. Solar Monitor and Saur Energy both report the key details: photos must be geo-tagged and time-stamped, the facility does not work from sub-logins, and the separate MNRE undertaking for repeated serial numbers is not accepted as rectification proof.

The file rules are strict too. Use a single valid extension such as PDF, keep filenames to letters, numbers and underscores, and regenerate any PDF the portal flags as malicious using a trusted tool.

Why does this matter more now?

The scheme is large and still growing. Business Standard, citing JMK Research, reports 17,561 MW installed across about 59.47 lakh households by the end of September 2026, with 1,375 MW added that month alone. More installations means more inspections and more defect tickets landing on the same small service teams.

Each of those systems also carries a five-year obligation. The model agreement between consumer and vendor commits the vendor to maintenance for five years, and the new instructions confirm the system warranty must cover five years from commissioning. A defect you close poorly today is a site you will visit again.

What should the 15-day proof pack contain?

ItemWhat the portal expectsCommon reason for rejection
Fix photoGeo-tagged, time-stamped photo of the rectified workNo location or time stamp, or an old photo
Generation proofInverter screen, or inverter app if the screen lacks it, showing cumulative generation and serial numberSerial number not visible

How should an EPC organise the work inside 15 days?

Treat every FQI defect as a service ticket with a hard due date, not as a favour to fit between new installs. A schedule that works for most rooftop teams:

  1. Day 1: log the defect, assign one owner, and pull the site's serial numbers and warranty files.
  2. Days 2 to 7: complete the site visit. Capture the fix photo and the generation proof before leaving, with location and time stamping switched on.
  3. Days 8 to 10: get the undertaking signed by the consumer, and convert every document to a correctly named PDF.
  4. Days 11 to 13: upload from the main vendor login, leaving two days of buffer for portal errors or a re-shoot.

The vendors who struggle are usually the ones whose serial numbers sit in a WhatsApp chat and whose warranty papers sit in a cupboard. Fix the record-keeping once and every future defect gets faster.

Where does software help, and where does it not?

The upload itself still happens on the National Portal. What a service platform changes is everything before it. In PiDuty, each installed asset has a QR-linked record with its module and inverter serials and warranty details, so the paperwork is ready when a defect arrives. Technicians receive the job on the mobile app, check in with GPS, upload site photos, fill a checklist and collect a digital signature. Managers see which tickets are close to day 15 before it becomes a problem.

Plans start at Rs57,820 a year for Solar Hub, with Solar Hub Pro at Rs78,000 a year, and there is a 7-day free trial. See pricing for details.

Frequently asked questions

How many days does a PM Surya Ghar vendor get to rectify an FQI defect?

MNRE's revised instructions give vendors 15 days to rectify a defect flagged in a third-party field quality inspection and upload proof through the FQI Defect section of the main vendor login.

Can a sub-login upload defect rectification proof?

No. The FQI Defect facility is available only through the main vendor login, so the owner or a trusted admin has to do the final upload.

What if the inverter screen does not show cumulative generation?

You can submit a geo-tagged photograph of the inverter mobile app showing cumulative generation and the inverter serial number.

Do the documents also need geo-tags?

No. Photographs must be geo-tagged and time-stamped, but supporting documents are exempt. Documents handed to the consumer should be uploaded as PDF copies, not as photos of the handover.
